Principal Project Engineer
Crescent Solutions is seeking an experienced Principal Project Engineer to lead high-voltage substation projects for large-scale renewable energy and power delivery initiatives. The role involves overseeing the entire project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and collaborating with various teams to drive safe and efficient project execution.

Responsibilities
Own full lifecycle delivery of assigned substation projects from conceptual design through construction, testing, and energization
Partner with early-stage project managers and development teams to define engineering scope, budget, and schedule during the conceptual phase
Provide technical oversight, training, and due diligence of external Engineers of Record (EOR) to ensure compliance with interconnection agreements, project specifications, IEEE, NESC, ASCE, NEC, and all applicable industry codes and standards
Develop scopes of work, competitively bid, evaluate, and award engineering and construction services through an integrated supply chain process
Coordinate land acquisition, geotechnical investigations, surveying, permitting, and civil/electrical design updates required for substation siting and construction
Represent Engineering & Construction in internal and external stakeholder meetings; prepare and deliver progress updates, risk assessments, and mitigation plans to various levels of leadership
Collaborate with transmission planning teams to review system impact studies, facilities studies, reactive/harmonic studies, and interconnection agreements; ensure design meets ISO/RTO and Transmission Owner requirements
Manage long-lead material procurement (transformers, breakers, steel, etc.) to avoid schedule delays and budget overruns
Support cost estimating with scope assumptions, template updates, and lessons-learned feedback from completed projects
Work cross-functionally with civil, electrical, protection & control, SCADA, and construction teams to establish priorities, work plans, and clear responsibilities
Drive safe, efficient, and cost-effective project execution in accordance with company processes, procedures, and industry best practices
Support project commissioning, startup, and performance testing activities
Provide technical support for regulatory filings, depositions, or hearings as needed
Partner with OEMs to optimize equipment designs and integration with internal engineering standards
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering required
8+ years of progressive experience in high-voltage substation design, engineering, and/or project management (69 kV – 500 kV)
Proven track record leading substation projects through the full lifecycle in the U.S. power sector
In-depth knowledge of IEEE, NESC, ASCE, NEC, and utility/RTO interconnection processes
Experience managing external engineering firms, EPC contractors, and major equipment suppliers
Strong commercial skills including competitive bidding, vendor selection, and contract negotiation
Excellent communication and presentation skills; comfortable engaging with executives and external stakeholders
Must be located in the United States and able to travel domestically 25-35%
Preferred
Master's degree or PE license
