Responsibilities
Design and lead implementation for our core software stack
Work directly with physicists and hardware engineers to design our core software stack
Refine designs using real workloads as machines come online
Design hardware control interfaces that communicate with cameras, data acquisition systems, and other electronic devices
Design clean abstractions so we can swap hardware components without rewriting the whole stack
Build systems to ingest and archive multiple terabytes per day of diagnostic and camera data, with pipelines for both real-time and offline analysis
Create infrastructure capable of dispatching commands to hardware with low-latency (sub-100 μsec) performance across a distributed system
Qualification
Required
Leading projects and mentoring junior engineers
C/C++ or Rust for systems programming
Systems-level architecture for controlling large arrays of hardware devices (e.g., robotics, lab instrumentation)
Designing stable APIs for hardware systems
Communication and device I/O: Ethernet/UDP/TCP, PCIe, DMA
Real-time Linux environments and deterministic scheduling
High-rate data acquisition (TBs/day scale)
