Responsibilities

Lead the Legal Department and manage two paralegal direct reports, ensuring efficient operations and compliance
Serve as in-house counsel and strategic legal advisor to senior leadership and the Board of Directors
Provide expert guidance on corporate governance, contracts, risk management, real estate, and employment law
Monitor and manage litigation and insurance claims in partnership with outside counsel
Draft, review, and negotiate vendor contracts, procurement agreements, and other legal documents
Oversee subpoena and medical record requests and ensure timely responses
Support external audits, regulatory reviews, and complaint investigations
Contribute to the organization’s real estate acquisition and property management strategy
Stay current on laws, regulations, and industry best practices impacting nonprofit and healthcare sectors

Required

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
License to practice law in New York State and active NYS Bar admission
Minimum of 5+ years of relevant legal experience, including nonprofit corporate law, contracts, commercial leases, real estate, employment law, litigation, and public sector procurement
2–5 years of leadership experience managing legal professionals and administrative staff
Strong knowledge of corporate governance, risk management, and compliance in healthcare or social services settings
Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly
High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential matters with discretion
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong computer skills
Ability to travel to agency sites and other locations as needed
