Responsibilities

Manage a team of test engineers and engineering technicians with mechanical, electrical, biomedical and other applied science backgrounds
Train and develop existing team members on technical and soft skills
Ensure team members are motivated, engaged and enthusiastic
Establish group objectives, metrics and individual work goals consistent with overall product development schedules and/or process improvement milestones for the team
Assign tasks, set priorities, and track progress
Execute resource management and control for planning, staffing, budgeting, and team cost tracking
Prioritize and negotiate project and resourcing tradeoffs with project managers, engineering leaders, and lab resources
Influence cross-functional project teams in the design, development, verification, and validation of new products with complex functionality
Form and maintain strong partnerships with cross functional partners in parallel organizations
Provide vision for the test engineering team and foster an environment that encourages creativity and crisp execution
Champion best practices for verification
Support team with generation of test plans, protocols and reports for Design Verification and Life/Reliability tests, working with and through the team of test engineers
Guide the team with translating complex product requirements to testable acceptance criteria
Provide technical support for failure analysis and test failures
Execute bench top design verification or reliability testing as needed
Identify and develop processes, test methods, and test fixtures that could benefit from new or updated fixture designs to drive operational efficiencies; drive and execute changes
Guide the team to develop harmonized test methods and on test method validation strategy as required
Functional & Technical leadership when collaborating with the cross functional/matrixed teams
Effective communication across various levels of the organization at core team meetings, product review board and design reviews
Ensures successful, on-time completion of department and core team projects; communicates constraints and recommends preferred mitigation to direct management when successful project completion is at risk

Required

Ability to perform mechanical engineering calculations needed to support equipment design, including dimensional analysis
Experience using tools and measuring equipment (Force Gauge, Calipers, Instron, Oscilloscopes etc.)
Experience working with electro-mechanical systems is a plus
Strong people management skills with the ability to deliver results while supporting the career development goals of team members
Enjoys problem solving; an excitement to get to the bottom of challenging technical problems and root cause analyses
Excellent Organization Skills, ability to prioritize multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously
Accepting and adhering to high ethical, moral, and personal values in decisions, communications, actions, and when dealing with others
Must be available to work full-time and commute/relocate to Sunnyvale, CA
Ability to travel (<10%) as needed to support programs at other facilities
6+ years experience working in an engineering organization. Prefer experience within medical device or pharmaceutical industry
Minimum 2+ years as a people manager, or equivalent project/team leadership, with proven ability to work well in a team environment
BS in Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering or similar degree. MS preferred
Medical Device Verification/Validation experience is required
Knowledge of ISO requirements and GMP guidelines; experience with FDA regulations and medical device design control required
Experience with working on through various phases of medical device product development process (concept through launch) is required

Preferred

Experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD software
Experience with MATLAB
Experience working with electro-mechanical systems is a plus
