Senior Data Science Engineer

Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality code, data analysis, and data visualization using best practices
Lead projects to develop automated analytical tools
Lead engineering efforts for model development, testing, and deployment
Occasionally update or train new predictive models
Working with the team to provide analysis, reports and/or electronic files to internal and external customers as needed
Help define and maintain best practices including: Proactively exploring new technologies and methodologies to guide the technical maturity of the team and develop best practices
Helping define best practices for using Azure for data science at MEC
Helping define best practices for building and deploying generative AI applications
Act as a liaison between the Advanced Analytics team and other technical teams across W.R. Berkley
Act as a project lead, responsible for breaking down projects, setting timelines, providing status updates, and ensuring timely and accurate project execution
Monitor production Advanced Analytics Cloud and Kubernetes applications and ensure they run efficiently and free from error
Mentor junior members, including best practices education and cross-training needed to ensure coverage in case of absences
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's or Advanced degree in data science, computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, physics, or other sciences (or college degree with significant technical experience in a corporate setting)
Education should include significant work in advanced mathematics, statistics, computer science, and/or data science
Requires 4 to 7 years of business experience as a data/software engineer, data scientist, or in a related field
Possesses an intense curiosity and determination to explore and solve complex business problems utilizing data, technology, and analytical techniques
Ability to multitask and manage assigned work under very tight deadlines
Intermediate-to-advanced understanding of a variety of statistical and machine learning algorithms
Intermediate-to-advanced understanding of natural language processing
Intermediate-to-advanced understanding of deploying and scaling analytics solutions
History of following data visualization best practices
History of following coding best practices
Experience in leading projects including breaking projects down into deliverables, setting timelines, documentation, communication, and team coordination
Experience with working with large databases for analytical purposes, including both transactional systems and data warehouse systems
Intermediate-to-advanced level understanding of SQL Databases and the SQL Programming Language – SQL Server / Oracle and including programming in T-SQL or the like
Intermediate-to-advanced level programming experience with Python and/or R
Intermediate-to-advanced understanding of object-oriented programming and design patterns
Intermediate-to-advanced experience building and deploying Docker applications and knowledge of best practices
Intermediate-to-advanced experience building and deploying APIs and knowledge of best practices
Knowledge of information technology practices relating to data engineering, data warehousing, ETL processes, and data mining
Understanding of project management practices and approaches including waterfall and Agile methodologies. Experience with project management software such as Microsoft Team Foundation Server, Jira, etc
Experience with code management (version control) techniques utilizing tools such as Microsoft Team Foundation Server, GitHub, Trello, etc
Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
Ability to translate very complex subject matter into understandable written and oral communications
