Associate Director of Development

Responsibilities
Build and manage a portfolio of 60-120 qualified donors, including donors with the capacity to give over $100,000
Understand and apply complex principles of developing donor strategies
Responsible for prospect development, qualification and direct asks to both global and local priorities to meet funding needs
Discuss assets and listen for opportunities for gifts of assets or other non-cash gifts, such as planned gifts and trade lands
Provide opportunities for donors to receive recognition and increase future giving
Involve and engage appropriate partners in the field and at the Worldwide Office, keeping them apprised of interactions, issues and/or concerns, and address questions as needed
Feature the programs of the Conservancy in detailed terms and confidently discuss legacy giving opportunities
Understand project budgets and may build proposal budgets utilizing this knowledge
Develop a referral network as needed and may manage formal and/or informal networks of volunteers
Conduct a minimum of 75-125 visits each year and prepare contact reports after each visit
Responsible for 225-375 moves annually and have an annual fundraising goal of $500,000 or more, along with a goal for bequest commitments
Must have experience in asking individuals for gifts of at least $25,000
Manage projects with several variables, manage a timeline, and ensure accountability and solve problems
Work with conservation staff in both local, division and global programs to engage donors and display curiosity and self-motivation to learn and communicate conservation goals to donors and prospects
Understand and comply with all Conservancy gift-related policies and procedures and ensure ethical compliance, as defined by the Association for Fundraising Professionals
Use the Conservancy’s donor database and may develop proposals
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree and 5 years related experience or an equivalent combination
Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents
Experience in asking for and closing gifts of $25,000 or more, including planned gifts
Experience in managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors
Experience working with cross-functional teams
Experience, coursework, or other training in fundraising principles and practices
Preferred
Experience in fundraising strategy development, focusing on identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors
Demonstrated experience in cultivating a pipeline of new donors
Experience in building donor specific strategies
Experience with Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) software (i.e. Blackbaud, Raiser's Edge, etc.)
