Montgomery County Public Schools is responsible for overseeing the educational curriculum in the county. The Director of Curriculum Development and Instruction will lead the design and implementation of the PK-12 curriculum, ensuring quality education and compliance with state standards.

Responsibilities

Developing and executing the vision and administration of the department

Providing leadership for the designing, planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of countywide PK-12 curriculum in Science; Social Studies; World Languages, Fine and Performing Arts; Health/Physical Education

Providing leadership and supervision for department staff in program development and implementation

Responsive improvements through curriculum development and implementation

Program evaluation and direct support to schools

Presentations to the Board of Education

Fiscal oversight

Completion of reports

Frequent dialogue with community members, state officials, and media representatives

Required

Master's degree with focus in the area of curriculum and/or administration

Minimum three years' experience as a curriculum supervisor/director, school-based administrator, and/or principal

Experience providing leadership in designing, planning, and implementing instructional programs

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and lead a wide range of varied projects in a complex school system

Meets Maryland state certification requirements for Administrator I

Completion of Observing and Analyzing Teaching I or II, or completion within one-year of the position start date

Thorough knowledge of the PK-12 instructional programs of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)

Thorough knowledge of educational theory, research-based best practices, the Common Core State Standards as well as other state and national standards

Knowledge and understanding of the Blueprint for Maryland's Future requirements and goals

Knowledge of school improvement planning process

Ability to ensure a diverse student population equitable access to curricula and instructional programs

Ability to collect, analyze, and use data for program planning

Ability to support the vision of the department, promote open communication, and collaboratively problem solve

Knowledge of curriculum and assessment design, implementation, and evaluation

Ability to use systems thinking to establish clear goals for program development

Ability to manage budgets, reporting, procurement, and legal processes

Writing and technology skills necessary for producing comprehensive reports and making presentations

Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, lead, and evaluate large scale projects

Excellent interpersonal skills built on communication and collaboration

Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills
