Responsibilities

Teach HLTH 210: Community Birth Worker/Doula Education from a community wisdom, strengths-based, reproductive justice framework
Teach HLTH 210 in-person or hybrid, during days, evenings and/or weekends
Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System to teach HLTH 210 as a hybrid-online and/or tech-enhanced course
Create a student-centered classroom and lesson plans that reflect the approved HLTH 210 course outline
Perform duties associated with instructing and assessing student progress including, but not limited to: developing a syllabus, grading, record-keeping, designing written lesson plans, classroom activities, related assignments, student learning outcome assessments, and using technology enhanced teaching
Evaluate student performance and progress through in-class observation, assignments, and tests
Provide opportunities for students to be aware of their progress
Be available and accessible to students when necessary including holding office hours
Respond to student disciplinary issues and work with supervisor and other appropriate campus offices to ensure that student and faculty rights are respected
Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress
Submit census, attendance reports, grades and student learning outcomes, including supporting documentation, by the published deadlines
Maintain student confidentiality as required by regulation and Board Policy
Submit textbook and course materials information by the published deadlines
Participate in department and college functions, such as staff meetings, committee work, curriculum development, course revisions and course assessments
Support and engage in innovative, culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist teaching practices related to student success and student equity
Keep abreast of current information, concepts, policies, laws and ideas in the discipline and with best practices in teaching and learning
Participate in professional development and ongoing trainings on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism
Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Required

Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required)
Earned Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent foreign degree, plus two years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's assignment; OR THE EQUIVALENT
Earned Associate Degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent foreign degree, plus six years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's assignment; OR THE EQUIVALENT
Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in Health and Physical Care Services and Related Technologies (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990)

Preferred

Evidence of understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning)
Experience teaching childbirth education courses in birth centers, community clinics, community based organizations, hospitals, and other settings, with diverse communities
Experience teaching childbirth education courses from a community wisdom, strengths-based, reproductive justice framework
Current Doula certification and/or other childbirth education credentials
At least 2 years related professional experience in the childbirth education field with communities that experience adverse birth outcomes
Teaching or training experience in public health and/or behavioral health/community health/social service/educational/health care settings using culturally responsive pedagogy and equity-minded practices
Demonstrated ability to motivate learners from diverse backgrounds, especially non-traditional and underrepresented students
Excellent oral and written English communication skills
Evidence of successful instructional experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy
Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students
