Responsibilities
Implement the department’s mission and goals by providing expert professional clinical laboratory science services in all the clinical laboratory departments
Provide technical oversight in their specific department, including planning, competency, training, administrative and leadership activities
Serve as the technical expert for questions or concerns with health care providers specific to clinical sections in the Clinical Laboratory
Provide daily direction to other laboratory staff regarding laboratory workload and policies and procedures
Motivate, coordinate and support staff to ensure quality, clinically relevant data is reported in a timely manner
Assure all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications
Identify and set forth training and competency needs for new clinical laboratory scientists as well as ongoing training for existing CLS’s
Apply critical thinking to evaluate situations and identify underlying issues and root causes
Propose potential solutions and provide guidance and support to CLS’s with this process
Responsible for department development for continuous improvement to meet the changing needs of the community and organization
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or a related field
Five (5) years of laboratory experience performing complex testing
Current license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist from a state licensing agency OR Current board certification from MT-ASCP or CLS-NCA
