Responsibilities

Possess and demonstrates excellent customer service skills; for example, friendly, personable, helpful, patient, and professional
Support the YMCA of the Rockies safety program. Promote safe work environment for guests, members, and staff
Must meet acceptable criminal background check standards
Provide leadership for, live with, and care for a cabin group of 8-10 campers in male and female identifying cabins
Work collaboratively with their co-counselor to ensure each camper’s physical, social, and emotional health and safety needs are met
Organize, plan and safely run one or more activity classes each week
Perform group counselor duties with a day camp of local and non-local campers
Assist in overnight camp check-in/check-out every other weekend
Specialize in serving as a counselor for both our overnight and day camp programs
Rotate between programs based on program needs
Ensure the horse herd is cared for, the barn facility and equipment cleanliness are maintained, and all barn safety protocols are met
Lead two - three backpacking trips during the summer
Develop and facilitate a schedule of activities in accordance with the goals and outcomes of the LIT and Adventure programs
Lead, coordinate, and supervise in-camp activities and out of camp trips
Create, promote, and manage media materials for website
Responsible for food preparation for all camp meals
Support families with excellent phone and email etiquette and knowledge of camp
Coordinate staff, scheduling, and logistical support of the Adventure, Trekker and Leadership Training programs
Qualification
Required

Must meet acceptable criminal background check standards
All cabin counselors must be at least 18 years old
Must have current certification in CPR/First Aid or be willing to obtain certification
Minimum of 21 years of age and have a clean driving record
Minimum of 19 years of age
Must be at least 21 years old
Must have current certification in Wilderness First Aid or be willing to obtain certification (provided by CCO)
Responsible for the care and maintenance of the horses, tack, equipment, barn and pasture areas
Supervise Health Center. Administer First Aid and medications as needed to CCO staff and campers
Maintain required forms, logs, and act as a liaison with a camp physician
Preferred
Preferably 21 years or older and have experience working with youth in a summer camp setting
Experience teaching leadership skills in a wilderness setting preferred
Previous experience working in a camp setting is highly recommended
Should possess effective, supervisory, leadership, administrative, organizational and communication skills
Experience with management in an equestrian facility and program
Preferably has backcountry travel and living experience
Applicants that have their own camera/video camera and editing equipment preferred
Previous experience camping, backpacking, and repairing and/or maintaining camping gear preferred
Experience teaching leadership skills in a wilderness setting preferred
Emergency room or school nurse experience preferred
Previous camp experience helpful
