Responsibilities

Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, difficulty of assignments, and the capabilities of employees
Explain work requirements, methods and procedures
Interview candidates for subordinate positions. Make or approve selections for subordinate nonsupervisory positions
Participate in the initial planning of current and future work, training schedules, budget requests, staffing needs, estimates, and recommendations as to scheduling projected work assignments
Formulate, establish, and implement a comprehensive vocational training program, which encompasses formal instruction and hands-on training
Instruct and technically oversee work involving the fabrication and assembly of sheet metal parts and equipment; forging and press operations; structural iron working and other plate metal work
Evaluate inmates' performance through formal and informal task evaluations and annotate inmate training records accordingly
Counsel inmates individually in an attempt to motivate those which display attitude problems, are not motivated, and/or are not responding to vocational training assignments

Required

Ability to do the work of an Sheet Metal Mechanic (Welding) Supervisor without more than normal supervision
Explain work sequences and technical aspects involving the fabrication and assembly of sheet metal parts and equipment and providing formal instructional and hands-on sheet metal and welding processes and procedures
Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading)
Ability to Lead or Supervise
Ability to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc., for Metal Work
Dexterity (Assembly, Disassembly, Reassembly, etc.)
Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (Includes Constructing, Repair, and Forging)
Layout and Pattern Development (Includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation)
Moderate lifting and carrying 15-44 pounds, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors
Constant noise, working around machinery with moving parts, working closely with others, ability to wear personal protective equipment
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement up to 5% of the time
This position requires the employee to pass a Criminal History Background Check
This position requires the employee to undergo testing for tuberculosis prior to entry on duty and annually thereafter
This position requires the employee to complete the ACC Pre-Service Training program
The employee will comply with the strict provisions as established by ACC policy and local facility/activity policy on staff standards of conduct
A pre-placement medical examination is required and an annual physical thereafter
All ACC employees are required to take 40 hours of training annually
The maximum entry age for positions covered under the special Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) retirement is 37 years old
Individuals must be appointed by the last day of the month in which the individual becomes age 37
This position is designated as a Primary LEO and the work requires frequent, direct contact in the detention of inmates
Regularly-assigned contacts with inmates expose the incumbent to daily stress and the threat of potentially dangerous situations
IAW The Prison Rape Elimination Act, the MCC may not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates, has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup community conferment facility, juvenile facility, or other institution
Personnel who enter the Military Corrections Complex consent to inspection of their person and property, including their vehicle
All confinement facility personnel shall have no civilian felony convictions or court-martial convictions for any offense with a maximum authorized sentence to confinement of over one year
Section 639 of Public Law 106-554 requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony
A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed
