Technical Engineer Instructor
Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, is an integrated rolling stock and infrastructure provider. They are seeking a Technical Engineer Instructor to provide subject matter expertise, conduct technical training classes, and perform technical writing duties for the locomotive division.

Responsibilities
Provide Electrical, Mechanical and Locomotive Familiarization training to internal and external customers
Training will be on EMD Equipment that will include familiarization, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of EMD locomotives
Ensure course content is current, accurate, and aligned with FRA and company rules and regulations
Work involves considerable amount of creativity, perception, and initiative with wide latitude for independent action
Review and Edit Technical Publications
Requests photos, graphics and diagrams as necessary
Develops recommendations for service procedures
Provide comprehensive instruction of the Progress Rail Locomotive Electrical System and show expertise in the subject and share it with enthusiasm
Provide technical advice to customers regarding proper maintenance practices, and operation of product to maximize reliability and performance
Lead classes in the instruction, testing and troubleshooting on topics that will include all facets of AC Electrical systems including Truck Control and IAC units
Lead classes in the instruction, testing and troubleshooting on topics that will include all facets of the the Tier 4 1010J Engine
Structure training material and presentations into a logical sequence
Develop new technical courses, update and revise existing course content while developing instructional videos to compliment and support training needs
Evaluate customer satisfaction responses and recommend improvements to course content
Perform administrative duties associated with development of course materials and delivery and reporting on instruction
Frequent contact with others outside the work group
Ability to travel – North America and Internationally up to (40%) and up to 4 weeks at a time
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or equivalent required
College degree with a major in engineering or equivalent electrical or mechanical training
Product knowledge along with mechanical and electrical aptitude
High level of oral and technical writing skills
Relatively high level of analytical ability where problems are complex
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
Electrical and mechanical aptitude to understand locomotive and mechanical and electrical systems and technical operation
Excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication and conflict management skills
Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills
Excellent computer skills (MS Office suite)
Ability to travel – North America and Internationally up to (40%) and up to 4 weeks at a time
Preferred
10+ years hands-on experience maintaining locomotive systems, preferred
Knowledge of Airbrake systems and older DC Electrical systems is a plus
Experience developing training materials, assessing needs of customers
