The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) is seeking an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Operations Intern in the Customer Operations Department. The intern will support continuous improvement project work and day-to-day operations while learning from a mentor in the AMI Department.

Responsibilities

Utilize PC to enter, retrieve and update customer information on BWL's Customer Information System, e.g., new service requests, account adjustments, deposits, billing account itemizations, etc

Utilize system data to maintain project work schedules, monitor completed jobs and assist with management of work assigned to field service

Run reports for monthly dashboard reports and ensure accuracy of data

Monitor material orders - follow up and confirm lead times

Assist with AMI network troubleshooting to include site visits and updating records

Assist with workspaces and files

Document processes and create procedures, manuals, and training modules for associated tasks

Maintain and purge data items per BWL's data retention policies

Assist with project-related items

Required to follow BWL Safety Manual and wear personal protective equipment for all field work

Attends training and safety awareness and/or skills improvement as required by the BWL or government agency such as MIOSHA

Expected to comply with all BWL policies and work rules

Predictable and reliable attendance

Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Required

Currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution with a focus on Computer, Data Science, Business, or a related field with junior or senior status during the summer of 2026

Minimum GPA of 3.0

Must be enrolled full time in an accredited school for fall 2026 term

Must successfully complete a background check, a substance screening and a physical (if applicable)
