BH Graduate Student Intern 2nd Year - VRP (Sept 2026)
Fenway Community Health is a healthcare organization focused on providing services to marginalized communities. They are seeking a BH Graduate Student Intern for their Violence Recovery Program, which offers support and counseling to survivors of violence. The intern will provide clinical services, participate in supervision and training, and adhere to agency policies while working within the Behavioral Health department.

Responsibilities
Provides direct clinical services to clients:
Using established therapeutic processes, provides short-term therapy for VRP clients and co-facilitates 1-2 therapy/support groups for VRP/BH clients
Assists clients in accessing the criminal justice system and/or securing counseling and social services by giving client information and/or contacting service providers directly. Accompanies clients to Court and/or law enforcement appointments, as appropriate
Develops and maintains contacts in other assistance agencies; maintains updated referral lists, conducting outreach to service providers and community organizations about VRP services
Builds a caseload of 10-12 clients overall
Offers at least one clinical hour in the morning between 8-10 am, or at least 1 clinical hour in the late afternoon/evening (5 or 6 pm), dependent on client need
All clinical hours must be provided from on-site at 1340 Boylston St., though some of these sessions may be conducted via telehealth
Adheres to NASW Code of Ethics
Performs and completes clinical documentation/administrative tasks accurately and in a timely manner:
Documents each client interaction, within departmental window of compliance (48 hours), for review and co-signature by Intern Supervisor
Completes session notes, assessments, and discharge summaries according to department standards and in accordance with Fenway policy
Provides consultation to, and collaborates with, the other health care providers that constitute a client’s health care team
Participate In Intern Programming
Participates in regularly scheduled individual supervision, 1 hour per week
Including audio/written process recording activities as requested
Attends and contributes to Intern Group Supervision Meeting, 2 hours per week
Attends VRP team meetings, 2 hours per week
Participates in Fenway Health BH Intern Training Seminars, 1 hour every week
Attends on-site Department Meetings, quarterly
Meets Agency Participatory Expectations
Adheres to all agency and departmental policies and procedures as appropriate, including but not limited to the following, as not doing so would result in termination of internship:

Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities as requested
Adheres to the highest principles of patient and client confidentiality
Adheres to established safety policies, procedures and precautions; identifies potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and takes measures to rectify the situation
Attends all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings
Attends all regularly scheduled research meetings, trainings, forums and pertinent FCH staff meetings
Maintains professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities
Performs other related duties as required
Qualification
Required
Active enrollment in a graduate degree program in related field (e.g. Social Work or Counseling) required
Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to multitask
1 (academic) year of counseling with clients and/or related experience, at minimum
Successful completion of graduate level course work focused on understanding human behavior, basic counseling theoretical frameworks, and basic diagnostic assessments
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience working within an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse team
Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals
Ability to demonstrate emotional regulation of self, foresee impacts of emotional expressions on others (peers, colleagues, and patients), and modulate emotional expression accordingly to support rapport building and professionalism in shared workspaces
Ability to receive, process and respond to feedback in both individual and group supervision spaces
Preferred
Ability to document timely and accurately in fast-paced environments
Previous advocacy/case management experience
Previous experience in outpatient therapy settings
Prior knowledge of impacts of domestic violence, interpersonal violence, and/or trauma
Experience with LGBTQIA+ issues, HIV, and trauma
Experience with substance use disorders, short-term interventions, and group work
