Intern - SD Wildland Fire Meteorology (Summer)
The State of South Dakota is offering a summer internship in Wildland Fire Meteorology. The primary responsibility of the intern will be to study the relationships between wildfire and climate, as well as assist researchers in understanding weather scenarios that lead to significant wildfires.

Study wildfire-climate relationships
Study wildfire-atmosphere interaction
Work on wildfire databases
Study statistical relationships between fire and climate
Assist wildland fire researchers in identifying weather scenarios that produce large wildland fires
Qualification
Required
Applicant must be a current part-time or full-time student (minimum of 6 credit hours) in upcoming semester or in the immediately preceding semester
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation
Preferred
Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Meteorology and/or Atmospheric Sciences
Additional coursework in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Additional coursework in Computer Science
Additional coursework in Technical Communication
