Director of Institutional Compliance and Equity

Advance strategies that promote a healthy, respectful, and supportive environment for students, faculty, and staff
Support engagement across varied identities
Guide professional development efforts focused on the prevention of harassment and discrimination, as well as professional, engaging and productive interactions
Evaluate, develop and recommend updates to institutional policies to ensure alignment with civil rights laws
Promote best practice hiring and employment practices, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, rules and regulations
Support institutional readiness and responsiveness to evolving legal and regulatory frameworks with a focus on institutional compliance
Offer leadership in the coordination of responses to bias-related incidents and civil rights concerns
Ensure fair and trauma-informed processes for reviewing and resolving complaints
Maintain systems that support transparency and accountability in compliance-related activities
Lead campus-wide education initiatives on topics such as gender equity, disability rights, and anti-discrimination laws
Collaborate with campus partners to build capacity for supportive environments across departments and programs
Cultivate partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to create an environment supportive of all students and staff
Identify funding opportunities to support institutional compliance efforts
Serve as a visible leader and advisor to senior leadership on emerging issues in campus culture and compliance
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Communication Studies, Public Administration, Education Leadership, Legal Studies, Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in equity, compliance, and training
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in equity, compliance, inclusion, employee relations, or related fields within complex or evolving organizational settings
Demonstrated expertise in interpreting and applying federal, state, and local non-discrimination laws and regulations, including but not limited to New York Executive Law, Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, ADA, and FERPA
Experience conducting trauma-informed and complex objective investigations related to civil rights or compliance matters
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with individuals from all backgrounds, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners
Demonstrated ability to lead institutional change, navigate sensitive issues, and maintain confidentiality and discretion in high-stakes environments
Experience using data and preparing reports required for compliance with federal and state laws and regulations
Preferred
Master's degree in a relevant field such as Higher Education Administration, Public Policy, Human Resources, or Organizational Leadership
Juris doctor
Professional certifications such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR, or other relevant credentials
Proven success in developing and implementing institutional policies that align with civil rights laws
Experience designing and delivering training programs on professional and supportive workplace practices
Demonstrated leadership in strategic planning and resource development to enhance a supportive and professional workplace
Experience with cross-functional collaboration, including participation in executive leadership councils or presidential advisory groups
Familiarity with higher education governance structures, accreditation standards, and compliance frameworks
