Program Coordinator - Full Time

The CC Program Coordinator organizes therapeutic programming to enhance the well-being of residents while managing staff and ongoing programs in collaboration with the Programming Manager.

Responsibilities
Maintains Erickson Senior Living’s philosophy and “Vision” statement
Uses independent judgment to design, plan and facilitate variously structured, guided, and impromptu programs for individuals and groups in the common areas and resident rooms of the Continuing Care Community
Escorts and ensures the safety of the residents on group trips and excursions
Works collaboratively with other team members, management, community groups, volunteers, and families to deliver programs and activities designed to enhance the resident experience
Assesses changes in the resident’s needs, abilities, and preferences to provide programs and activities that are beneficial, purposeful, and enjoyable for individuals and group audiences
Any noted changes are communicated to the Programming Manager
Creates program supply lists, maintains supply levels, and ensures safe operation and functionality of the equipment
Participates in team discussions regarding resident programming, schedules, trips, special events, staff scheduling, and resident issues
Prepares and plans various activity programs according to the schedule and guidance of the Program Manager
Implements, supervises or leads the group and individual activities both structured, guided and impromptu in activity spaces, common areas, and in resident’s rooms
Motivates and assists participants during activities/programs
Sets up activity equipment such as tables, instruments, electronics, etc
A flexible work schedule including weekends and evenings as determined by the Programming Manager is required
Completes state and federal required documentation as needed and directed by the Programming Manager
Collects and records information by conducting resident or family interviews and reviewing documentation for assessments
Under the discretion of the Programming Manager, participates in care plan conferences providing vital information to the resident and significant others regarding programming involvement
Assesses residents’ needs and limitations on an ongoing basis for program planning and contributes to the written assessment forms and MDS
Plan and prepare various activity programs using skills and areas of specialty
Provides an environment that promotes and supports an active, healthy, and independent lifestyle in accordance with the abilities of each resident
Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the activity programs of Continuing Care
Adapts programming based on the level of the resident’s abilities, both physical and cognitive
Interacts directly with residents and family when able, to gather information for assessments, MDS, and care plans
Provides proper documentation including weekly schedules, holistic assessments, care plans, and MDS as necessary
Markets CC programming philosophy internally and externally to residents, families, and staff
Provides oversight of the delivery of customized, individualized resident services
Create weekly schedules (daily schedules are optional based on resident preference) and special event flyers to be posted in a conspicuous ongoing location in each neighborhood
Weekly schedules and special event flyers should relate to the particular neighborhood where posted and copies are made available to residents and their families per request
Determines the need for activity supplies, identify vendors, generate supply lists, order supplies, and label and distribute supplies where needed
Interviews, supervises and evaluates CC program department staff
Supervises programming department staff members when the Programming Manager is not in the building
Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development; plans and/or participates in conferences and classes to improve knowledge and practice in resident care; attends in-service programs that are provided to facilitate compliance with government regulations
Seeks outside resources through universities, community, and professional networks
Provides oversight of outside groups which provide on-site educational and recreational programs
Participates in the yearly budget planning process
Maintains records of expenditures
Educates staff and volunteers regarding residents’ abilities, psychosocial needs, and therapeutic interventions during in-service training and staff meeting
Serve as a resource person and role model for others
Creates partnerships with all departments to stimulate and promote a social and home-like atmosphere resulting in a warm and inspirational environment for residents which creates community, celebrates life, and allows them to share their gifts
Participates in CC QAPI, operations team meetings, financial reviews, and all other meetings when the Programming Manager is not in the building
Coordinates entertainment, trips, resident volunteer opportunities, intergenerational programs, multiple musical opportunities, creative / self-expression opportunities, gender-specific programs, and sensorimotor – physical and cognitive stimulation through the senses
Creates ongoing programs that support resident choice and preference of activity programs
Supports guided self-directed and structured programs in Memory Care programs
Qualification
Required
Minimum of 4 years of Recreation / Activities / Programming experience or 3 years as an ESL Programming Assistant
Experience leading groups of people with varying levels of physical and cognitive independence, and experience with the elderly
Flexible work schedule including weekends and evenings
Understanding of the dementia process
Independent thinker, self-motivated, organized, flexible and dependable
Good communication and listening skills
Advanced computer skills required
Demonstrates a willingness to learn and a basic understanding of the needs of the resident
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to multitask
Exceptional customer service, problem solving, time management, and leadership skills
Must be a strong team player and be willing to learn how to develop teams and foster teamwork
Enthusiastic and passionate about working with seniors
Experience with or willingness to learn electronic medical records and documentation
Must be able to read, write, understand and communicate in the English language
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist
Able to transport a resident in a wheelchair
Able to walk for long distances or periods of time, pushing weights up to 250 lbs
Able to kneel, bend from the waist to floor, stoop, twist torso laterally in all directions, and grasp small and large objects
Preferred
Certified or eligible for certification (ADC or CTRS)
