(SEASONAL) Park Ranger (Preventative Search and Rescue)
Great Smoky Mountains National Park is seeking a Seasonal Park Ranger for their Visitor and Resource Protection Division. The primary responsibilities include educating the public on preventative search and rescue, providing emergency medical responses, and participating in search and rescue missions.

Responsibilities
Educate the public regarding preventative search and rescue messaging
Provide emergency medical response at the EMT level or higher
Create educational material to share with the public
Participate in search and rescue missions which may include technical or swift water rescue
Leading SAR and EMS trainings for staff members
Qualification
Required
U.S. Citizenship required
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
Subject to pre-employment physical and drug testing
Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
Prior to appointment, the people selected for these positions must be determined physically fit by an authorized physician to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties, pass a medical examination, and pass the Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB)
You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required
You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work
Government housing is available
You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights a month
You will be required to possess a current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or higher-level certification
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Applicants must be at least (1) 18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or have completed a formal vocational training program; or have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience
To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service
EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a four year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with 24 semester hours of related coursework
Successful completion of a COMBINATION of education and experience as described above
