Responsibilities
Perform inter-oral procedures as directed by the Dentist
Take preliminary impressions for study models, remove sutures, place and remove rubber dams, perio-packs, matrix bands, and wedges
Instruct patient in proper dental techniques, care of appliances, and causes of dental decay
Operate dental X-ray equipment to take intra and extra-oral radiographs
Chart examination and treatment information as relayed by dentist to patient records
Qualification
Required
Radiology Certification: You MUST submit a copy of your radiology certification/ Transcripts showing your completed radiology credits with your application package or you will be rated ineligible
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes assist the dentist during dental procedures, maintain supplies for dental treatment room or assisting with x-ray equipment in a dental office
Successful completion of a full four-year course of study in a dental assistant or dental hygiene program that included at least 24 semester hours of courses in radiation physics; radiation biology; radiation health, safety, and protection; X-ray films and radiographic film quality, radiographic techniques; darkroom and processing techniques; and film mounting
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%
Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds is required
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation
One year trial/probationary period may be required
Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption
This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing
A pre-placement medical examination is required
Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact
You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship
Direct Deposit of Pay is required
Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees

A cost-of-living allowance has been authorized for Hawaii at the rate of 8.64% (subject to change).
