BH Graduate Student Intern - 1st Year (Sept 2026)

Fenway Health is a healthcare organization focused on serving diverse communities. They are seeking a Graduate Student Intern to provide support and services to clients in the Behavioral Health Department, including case management and direct client services under supervision.

Responsibilities

Provide evidenced-based screening/assessment and case management support to primary care patients as part of multidisciplinary team
Support clients on caseload with a mix of SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral to Treatment) interventions under the supervision of Primary Supervisor
Document each client interaction within departmental window of compliance (48 hours), for review and co-signature by Intern Supervisor
Maintain a caseload of 10 clients in Behavioral Health Integrated (BHI) Care (including individual therapy clients, drop-in services, triage assessments, and low barrier therapy services)
Offer at least 2 clinical hours in the evening (5-6pm)
Provide drop-in behavioral health services for clients who utilize Fenway's Access: Drug User Health Program
All clinical hours must be provided from on-site at 1340 Boylston St. or 359 Green St., though some of these sessions may be conducted via telehealth
Adhere to NASW Code of Ethics
Participate in regularly scheduled individual supervision, 1 hour per week
Including audio/written process recording activities as requested
Attend and contribute to Intern Group Supervision Meeting, 1 hour per week
Attends and contributes to BH Department Case Disposition Meeting, 1 hour per week
Participate in cross-training and job shadowing activities outside of BHS team, 1 hour per week
Attend Pod-Based Multidisciplinary team meetings, 1 hour per week
Attend BHS team meetings, 1 hour every other week
Participate in BH Intern Training Seminars, when topic is determined by training team to be applicable/indicated
Attend on-site Department Meetings, quarterly
Adheres to all agency and departmental policies and procedures as appropriate, including but not limited to the following, as not doing so would result in termination of internship:

Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities as requested
Adheres to the highest principles of patient and client confidentiality

Attends all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings
Attends all regularly scheduled research meetings, trainings, forums and pertinent FCH staff meetings
Maintains professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities

Required

Active enrollment in a graduate degree program in related field (e.g. Social Work or Counseling) required
Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to multitask
Case management or human services related experience required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience working within an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse team
Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals required
Ability to demonstrate emotional regulation of self, foresee impacts of emotional expressions on others (peers, colleagues, and patients), and modulate emotional expression accordingly to support rapport building and professionalism in shared workspaces
Ability to receive, process and respond to feedback in both individual and group supervision spaces

Preferred

Ability to document timely and accurately in fast-paced environments
Previous advocacy/case management experience
Previous medical clinical experience
Experience with LGBTQIA+ and/or HIV
