Engineering Technician III - Aberdeen District
The N.C. Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Technician III for the Aberdeen District Office. This role involves the review and processing of encroachment agreements, permits, and site plans, as well as conducting inspections and ensuring compliance with NCDOT standards.

Responsibilities
Responsible for the in-depth review and processing of utility and non-utility encroachment agreements, driveway permits, preliminary site plans, subdivision plans, and road additions/abandonments
Schedule and conduct on-site inspections for compliance with NCDOT specifications and standards
Conduct pre-construction meetings and meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to NCDOT policies and procedures
Answer questions and address complaints from the general public by telephone, written correspondence, or in person
Assign and schedule daily inspection duties for lower-level technicians
Use surveying equipment to assist in review and inspection and be subject to work during emergencies and inclement weather
Assist the District Engineer with other tasks as assigned
Possess the ability to read and interpret construction plans, provisions, specifications and perform inspection procedures
Be experienced using computers and electronic tablets/iPads and able to adapt to changes in technology
Possess good communications skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractor's personnel, and the general public
Qualification
Required
Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to read and interpret construction plans, provisions, specifications and perform inspection procedures
Good communications skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractor's personnel, and the general public
Ability to work independently to make engineering decisions
Experience using computers and electronic tablets/iPads and able to adapt to changes in technology
Legally operate a motor vehicle
Safety toe footwear required
Preferred
Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems
Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
Customer service experience related to resolving problems that involve explaining complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups
Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans
Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
