Pharmacy Supervisor - Outpatient

Responsibilities
Supervises the daily operations of outpatient pharmacy, ensuring timely and accurate processing and dispensing of outpatient prescriptions with accurate record keeping
Coordinates staff assignments and workload, maintaining effective and efficient workflow and ensuring appropriate staff coverage during all operational hours. Develops and publishes employee work schedules and daily duty assignments
Organizes workload, directs outpatient pharmacy activities, plans short- and long-range objectives, solves problems, monitors workflow and performance metrics, and achieves organizational strategic goals and personal performance standards
Participates as a member of the health care team in an interdisciplinary approach to provide world-class quality patient care
Collaborates with other pharmacy leaders, pharmacy staff and leadership from nursing, providers and other healthcare team members and by leading and directing staff pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
Serves as a liaison between outpatient pharmacy and other departments, healthcare providers, and patients
Contributes to adequate quality assurance and quality improvement activities, including development and maintenance of effective services, systems, and processes from both patient outcome and cost perspective through the use of audits, continuous monitors, patient safety reports
Ensures compliance with all applicable federal laws, federal regulations, VA policy, and accrediting body standards pertaining to outpatient pharmacy services. Prepares for and participates in regulatory and accreditation surveys, implementing corrective actions as necessary
Supervises utilization and maintenance of pharmacy-related equipment. Adept with pharmacy-related software
Assists pharmacy inventory supervisor with inventory management
Conducts performance evaluations, sets performance standards, and provides ongoing feedback, coaching, and professional development
Identifies training needs and implements new employee training plans and staff development initiatives to ensure high competency levels and professional growth

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree
Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia
You must have 1 year of experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12)
Ability to effectively supervise subordinate staff
Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions
Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards pertaining to pharmacy
Skill in managing people or programs
Preferred
Minimum of three years of professional pharmacy experience
At least one year in a supervisory or leadership role
