Senior Electrical Engineer (Power Systems)

Responsibilities

Designing electrical systems for building power, i.e. normal, emergency, and standby power distribution systems for 208v, 480v, and medium voltage for industrial facilities
Executing duties on larger projects independently
Client contact and Lead Engineer
Documenting all necessary calculations for the design such as short circuit, selective coordination, arc flash, generator sizing, steady state and transient voltage drops, load calculations, conductor sizing, raceway fills, etc
Maintaining project document organization
Managing time and meeting commitments
Understanding Ohms Law, AC/DC, Electric and magnetic fields
Understanding power system theory – 3-phase vector math, power factor, symmetrical components
Understanding capacitors, inductors, and resonance
Designing lighting for food processing spaces, including lighting calculations for emergency and inspection lighting level needs. Coordinating fixture placement/mounting with other trades
Designing fire alarm systems per NFPA 72, 101, and local building code
Code expertise – NEC, NFPA 72/101/, IBC
Specifying means and methods
Specifying other common work – grounding, start-up, LV & MV Cables
Specifying equipment
Designing low voltage systems such as LAN, phones, PA, Wi-Fi, access control, cameras, etc
Creating power plans
Creating power one-line and panel schedules
Defining fire alarm requirements per IBC and NFPA 101
Defining Low Voltage Systems
Reviewing scope with client – create and manage needs list
Producing bid documents consisting of layout drawings, one-line, riser, schedules, details, and specifications
CAD – add 2D & 3D devices to Xrefs
Procuring long lead light fixtures and power distribution equipment such as switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, MCC’s, generators, variable speed drives, and UPS’s
Transformer configurations
Performing short circuit calculations identifying deficiencies or series ratings
Estimating weights of main tray/trapezes and equipment needing support
Assisting in managing electrical bid process for clients, observing construction, and assisting with startup
Project planning and feasibility studies
Actively participating in and supporting department-wide standard development, updates, and maintenance
Researching electrical building/power materials and best practices
Supporting talent growth within our organization
Assisting with interviewing and hiring new team members
Handling complex issues and tasks with minimal supervision and advise subordinate team members on solutions to issues they encounter
Providing coaching and/or mentoring to a subordinate group when directed by supervisor

Required

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related 4-year degree
8+ years of work experience in electrical systems for building power
8+ years of work experience in designing lighting, fire alarm systems, and low voltage systems for building spaces, including lighting calculations, and coordinating fixture placement with trades
8+ years of work experience in electrical bid documents and procuring electrical materials and equipment
8+ years of work experience in AutoCAD, Revit or other related design programs
Travel to customer project sites for fieldwork, review, audit, and meetings, estimated 25%
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Must be able to lift-up to 15 pounds at times
Up to 25% travel required to visit project site and other offices

Preferred

Relevant experience in a manufacturing or construction setting
FE or PE tracked desirable
