Electrical Engineer (II)
PSI Federal Civilian Sector is hiring an Electrical Engineer to support the 222-S Laboratory Complex for the Department of Energy in Richland, WA. The role involves a variety of engineering duties including electrical equipment design, safety evaluations, and project engineering with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
Support the 222-S Complex with electrical engineering, project engineering, and other duties as assigned with minimal supervision
Perform a variety of engineering duties including, but not limited to: new electrical equipment design and upgrades of existing electrical systems, electrical safety evaluations and electrical worker personal protective equipment (PPE) determinations, developing and approving work packages and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), conducting field walk-downs, equipment selection and parts ordering, performing and/or reviewing calculations, testing, design/procedural reviews, and assisting in the planning and execution of field work
Perform engineering work in accordance with applicable codes, standards, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering or project tasks
Demonstrate problem solving and exercise of judgment as required on advanced level work details and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives
May direct the activities of Technicians and/or other Engineers as assigned
Incorporate conventional engineering practices such as technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes, and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning where only general objectives are stated
Assume technical responsibility for one or more related phases of a project and coordinate various phases of design with other engineers performing related technical work
May function as the lead on project or departmental task assignments
Ensure compliance with technical requirements of assigned work, proper utilization and training of personnel operating under one's technical guidance, and compliance with approved schedules and staffing estimates
Ensure appropriate technical performance of the end product designed and developed to resolve the original problem
Use and/or application of codes and standards, engineering principles, to prepare electrical designs and other design engineering documents as assigned
Implement and manage Preventative Maintenance (PM) for assigned systems
Support the team planning process to develop work instruction to safely implement designs within the 222-S Complex
Oversee field modifications and acceptance testing and perform field work walk-downs
Prepare technical reports, review designs, plans, and shop drawings
Perform electrical analysis using MathCad, AutoCAD, Smart Plant, and other software
Apply working knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC), NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety in the Work Place), and other codes, manuals, and standards to engineering design
Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, maintenance, operations, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements
Demonstrate interpolative thinking and creative ability through problem-solving
Propose solutions and alternatives and provide recommendations
Support the development of technical proposals and provide comments on technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical engineering
Experience with electrical equipment design and upgrades of existing electrical systems
Knowledge of electrical safety evaluations and electrical worker personal protective equipment (PPE) determinations
Ability to develop and approve work packages and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
Experience conducting field walk-downs and equipment selection
Proficiency in performing and/or reviewing calculations, testing, design/procedural reviews
Ability to assist in the planning and execution of field work
Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, procedures, and criteria
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and exercise of judgment
Ability to direct the activities of Technicians and/or other Engineers as assigned
Technical responsibility for one or more related phases of a project
Experience in preparing electrical designs and other design engineering documents
