Assistant Planner
The City of New York is committed to effective urban planning and economic development. The Assistant Planner will contribute to research and policy development affecting the city's economy and support neighborhood and citywide planning proposals.

Responsibilities
Quantitative research on economic issues; for example, around the health of the industrial sector, or storefront vacancy trends
Qualitative research around business typologies and challenges, developed via desktop research, stakeholder outreach and field visits
Produce PowerPoint presentations that include summary insights, graphics, and data visualizations for internal agency briefings and external audiences
Represent the division and department at internal and external meetings, preparing for meetings and providing summary notes
Serve as project support on ongoing neighborhood studies including producing neighborhood economic assessments and participating in policy development for neighborhood plans
Maintain, manage, process, and analyze databases that inform the agency’s economic work studies
Provide direct feedback on work programs to Director and Deputy Director
Perform other related tasks and projects
Qualification
Required
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning
A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to '1' above
All candidates must have a baccalaureate degree
Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position
Preferred
Strong quantitative analytical skills, with an ability to present thoughtful, coherent messaging on complex topics in compelling written, visual, and oral communication
Demonstrated familiarity with zoning and land use, real estate and development trends
Experience with project management and research development
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
Experience with spatial analysis and mapping using ArcGIS or other geospatial tools (i.e. QGIS, Carto) required
Proficient and excited to conduct Excel-based data analysis and visualization
Can work effectively in a team structure to complete tasks in a timely fashion
Strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to communicate technical results effectively
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, Illustrator, and/or InDesign) a plus
Experience with CoStar or other real estate data sources a plus
Benefits
Remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.
