Responsibilities
Lead and grow the QA team
Mentor and support QA analysts/engineers in both manual and automated testing
Help with hiring, onboarding, and developing new team members as we grow
Define and refine test approaches for web, API, and integration testing
Balance automation and thoughtful manual testing to achieve the best coverage with the least friction
Drive regression, smoke, performance, and exploratory testing practices
Establish and track clear QA metrics and KPIs (defect rates, coverage, escape rate, etc.)
Communicate risks, issues, and test results clearly to developers, product, and leadership
Work closely with development managers, product owners, and scrum masters to align quality goals with sprint and release plans
Ensure stories include clear acceptance criteria and that testing is integrated into the SDLC—not bolted on at the end
Advocate for best practices in test automation, CI/CD, and shift-left testing
Help teams design testable systems and improve reliability, performance, and user experience
Ensure team members follow Orion180’s operational standards, security practices, and compliance requirements
Encourage continuous learning as tools, frameworks, and technologies evolve
Qualification
Required
5+ years of hands-on software testing experience
Experience with web applications and/or APIs is important
Some leadership experience, such as: 1–3 years as a QA Lead, Senior QA owning a product area, or informal leadership/mentoring of other testers
Strong understanding of QA concepts and practices, including: Test planning, test case design, regression testing, and defect management
Familiarity with automation frameworks and tools (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, etc.)—you don't need to be a full-time automation engineer, but you should be comfortable guiding automation strategy
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, collaborating closely with developers and product
Solid communication skills—you can explain quality risks and trade-offs in plain language to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Proven ability to prioritize, stay organized, and hit deadlines without sacrificing quality
BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is a plus, or equivalent practical experience in software testing and QA leadership
Preferred
Experience testing systems hosted in MS Azure or other cloud platforms
Familiarity with SQL and basic database querying to validate data
Exposure to modern front-end frameworks (e.g., Vue.js, React, Angular) from a testing perspective
Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
Background in insurance, fintech, or other regulated industries
