Start in 2026 SummerThe Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education is offering an internship program through the National Laboratory of the Rockies for students who have completed the SMART - Industrial Assessment Center training. This 10-week, full-time paid internship will provide students with opportunities to learn about industrial efficiency and advanced manufacturing while working alongside professional engineers and scientists.

Required
Only students who are a part of the University of California Irvine's Industrial Assessment Center are eligible
Have a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Be at least 18 years old
Have medical insurance effective for entire term of appointment
Have one academic or professional recommendation
Selected participants will be required to submit a technical report or poster at the end of the appointment period
Provide proof of relevant citizenship/immigration status
If a selected applicant is not a U.S. citizen, they must obtain and show proof of a valid visa status allowing us to pay them a stipend
Participants who are foreign nationals must also receive approval and clearance from the U.S. Department of Energy; this process is initiated by hosting lab and could take more than ten weeks
Internship will be the summer of 2026 only
Students are responsible for securing their approval to participate and receive a stipend in the summer of 2026
Benefits
$250 per week housing allowance
Travel allowance of up to $1000 for mileage or flight travel reimbursement round-trip for participants whose permanent address is 50 miles or more from NLR.
