RECREATION SPECIALIST (YOUTH ACTIVITIES)

Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, coordinates, and implements a developmentally appropriate and diverse, educational recreational, fitness and leisure year-round teen program that promotes physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development and fosters achievement, leadership, and recognition of teenage youth
Monitors day-to-day operations of the Teen Program
Administers Teen Program resources
Provides a safe and healthy environment for teens and staff
Assists in developing marketing strategies to promote and publicize the Teen program and increase awareness and participation

Must be able to obtain and maintain current certification in first aid and CPR
The employee must meet and maintain training requirements as outlined in applicable DOD and AF regulations
The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position; e.g., regularly drive passengers on tours or field trips
May be subject to physical examination and immunizations IAW governing AFI's and local policy requirements
May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty
Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems
Knowledge of youth/teen development theory, methodology, policy, practices and procedures relating to physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development
Skill in preparing budgets, program evaluations, and facility administration; managing financial and physical resources of teen programs; and in effectively organizing and utilizing available resources within the program framework
Ability to implement policies, practices, and procedures in youth/teen programs and safety management
Knowledge of the procedures and ability to recruit, screen and train volunteers to support the teen activities
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships and be an effective leader for other staff and volunteers
1 full year of graduate level education in a field of study that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position such as General Recreation, Outdoor Recreation, Recreation and Parks Leadership, Wild Land Recreation Management, Natural Resources Recreation, Youth Recreation, Public Urban or Community Recreation, Special Populations Recreation or Physical Education or successful completion of a bachelor's degree and can claim Superior Academic Achievement
