NEOGOV is seeking a School Aide III (Math Tutor) at the San Francisco Community College District. The primary goal of this position is to provide tutoring and mentoring support to students in various math courses, aiming to close the opportunity gap in math education.

Responsibilities

Provide direct one-one-one tutorial sessions and small group sessions in a variety of math courses offered at City College of San Francisco including but not limited to, Math 75, Math 80, Math 95, Math 98, Math 100, Math 110A, Math, 115, Math 120, and Math 130
Aid students with problem-solving strategies and study strategies to increase their learning and comprehension
Establish partnerships with department instructors and retention programs to strengthen the tutoring program in the STAR Center and increase visibility of services to the community and college constituency
Organize and implement equity-minded classroom presentations to enhance awareness of tutorial services available in math courses
Facilitate small group tutoring workshops for students in related math courses
Engage in professional development training sessions that focus on equity discourse and best practices
Provide academic support services through both in-person and online formats
Deliver online tutoring services synchronously and asynchronously
Develop effective tutoring and mentoring approaches through conferences, shadowing other tutors, conducting observations and participating in meetings
Serve as a mentor to student peer tutors in the Student Tutoring and Resource Center
Maintain data related to closing the opportunity gap
Facilitate equity-minded workshops focused on culturally responsive teaching, best practices and problem-solving strategies to support peer tutors in the Student Tutoring and Resource Center
Support the STAR Center in the recruitment and training of new CCSF peer tutors
Support tutoring needs at Ocean and other CCSF centers
Position is required to work a flexible schedule, which includes evenings and potential Saturdays
Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and the Classified Manager

Required

Successful completion of two years of college (60 semester units) AND paid experience working with young people or college students
College Work Study and Student Lab Aide experience with the District will be considered/applied as qualifying experience per an agreement made between the District and SEIU

Preferred

Evidence of Mastery of college-level math
Successful completion of, or instructional experience with, college-level math courses within the last 5 years
Ability to tutor students in college level math courses within a high-volume, diverse community college Student Tutoring and Resource Center
Experience in teaching, tutoring, or delivering academic support to students at the post-secondary instructional level is strongly preferred
Experience using online tutoring platforms or softwares
Experience working in a large urban community college environment with a diverse cultural and ethnic student body is highly desirable
Knowledge of effective, student-centered tutoring techniques and strategies in academic subject areas
Ability to incorporate technology effectively into tutoring sessions
Possess strong communication skills in written, oral and online formats
Demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to varying academic abilities of students at a large, diverse, equity-minded community college
Commitment to supporting students of various academic and cultural backgrounds in reaching their academic goals and achieving success
Be self-directed and able to complete assignments in a timely manner
Knowledge of populations identified by the Office of Student Equity (Black/African American, Latino/a/x, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Filipino/a/x, Students with disabilities (DSPS), LGBTQ+, Students facing homelessness or housing insecurity, Foster Youth, and Justice Impacted individual) and strategies that are impactful and effective for these communities to thrive
Knowledge of student-centered learning and community engagement theories that center anti-racist de-colonial praxis
Experience working in a college access programs or higher education institutions with community college students that demonstrates the ability to put students' needs first
Experience working in programs that benefit student groups such as first-generation, disabled, and/or parenting students
Effective interpersonal collaboration and communication skills using empathy, patience, compassion, listening deeply, and courtesy
Proficiency in a language other than English such as Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, or Tagalog

Benefits

New employees hired on or after October 1, 2013 will contribute 2% of salary to the San Francisco Retiree Health Care Trust Fund (RHCTF).
Additional Days Off with Pay. As stipulated in the appropriate bargaining agreements and board resolutions, Classified employees working full year (260 days/year) work schedules are granted, as paid days off, the days between Christmas and New Year’s Day, as well as an additional five (5) paid days off during spring break. Eligible school-term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the designated days between Christmas and New Year’s Day shall be granted three (3) paid days off to be scheduled by mutual agreements between the employee and supervisor. Eligible school-term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the days designated as Spring Break will not be paid for these days off.
