They are seeking a Toxicologist who will be responsible for analyzing data and reports related to overdose fatalities, and collaborating with medical and law enforcement teams to improve interventions for overdose patients.

Responsibilities

Create reports, charts, and publications on selected overdose patients as it pertains to opioid and other drug use affects the body and contributes to fatalities

Work closely with hospitals and other medical care facilities to obtain toxicology reports from overdose patients

Analyze results of overdose patients to create documents, publications, and journal reviews on the short-term and long-term effects of opioid, synthetics, and other novel substances

Present toxicology information at local, state, and national meetings as it relates to OD2A

Work closely with law enforcement, medical staff, and counseling centers on the proper treatments available to non-fatal overdose individuals during various stages of the overdose intervention crisis episode

Create prescription management teams that will help patients, prescribers, and other medical professionals identify low-risk candidates for opioid prescriptions

Coordinate with medical prescribers, regulators, and clinical staff on other abuse-deterrent solutions for current patients receiving prescriptions with high risk of abuse potential

Create a risk-benefit assessment to evaluate the potential risk for opioid prescription misuse/abuse

Educate opioid prescribers on advantages and disadvantages of opioids for chronic pain treatment, including management of prescriptions

Assist in creating sustainability of overdose prevention programming

Required

Minimum of 5 years of experience in toxicology

Graduate degree in forensic science, chemistry, toxicology or related field

Ability to distinguish various drug toxicities among sample types

Experience in providing risk assessments of long-term substance misuse patients

Experience with qualitative and quantitative data collection and reporting

Experience with comprehensive toxicology testing that include multi-drug toxicities

Demonstrated attention to detail and proficiency communicating complex concepts to various audiences, as it pertains to toxicology

Ability to present data using data visualization tools

Demonstrated knowledge in overdose toxicology, including multi-dose toxicology, overdose prevention, substance use disorder treatment, community-based overdose prevention, recovery, and/or drug policy

Ability to work effectively with law enforcement, emergency personnel, and medical staff on improving life-saving interventions for non-fatal overdose patients experiencing crisis

Demonstrated ability to work well independently and within teams

Experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and teams

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Zoom
