Responsibilities
Prepare and file sales and property tax returns across multiple jurisdictions throughout the US
Perform general ledger account reconciliations and prepare related journal entries
File unclaimed property reports and ensure compliance with state regulations
Verify and process property tax bills; upload data into the accounts receivable system
Export/import customer data between tax systems, billing platforms, and Excel
Respond to customer inquiries regarding tax bills in coordination with customer service
Communicate professionally with taxing authorities via phone and email
Maintain a nationwide tax calendar to ensure timely filings and payments
Register with new taxing authorities and manage compliance documentation
Conduct tax research related to sales and property tax issues
Support month-end close and annual audit processes
Support the Income Tax function by making estimated payments, filing extensions, and preparing import files to record changes to fixed assets
Complete ad hoc financial analysis and reporting requests
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
3–5 years of experience in a tax role, with emphasis on sales and property tax
Strong understanding of accounting principles and general ledger reconciliation
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications
Comfortable working with system interfaces and data transfers
Familiarity with tax research tools such as Avalara Tax Research and Vertex
Ability to work independently and resolve issues proactively
Thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Highly organized with attention to detail
Self-starter with effective time management
Willingness to take on additional responsibilities and projects
Preferred
Experience in the financial services industry is preferred but not required
Experience with the Property Tax Management System (“PTMS”) from TCI, Inc. is a plus
Great Plains system experience is a plus
