Physical Education Instructor (Temporary, Part-Time Pool)

Responsibilities

Instruct one or more of the following Physical Education courses offered by the Department:
• Tennis, Badminton, Pickleball
• Swimming, Water Polo, Water Aerobics
• Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Baseball
• Yoga, Stretching
• Taekwondo, Judo, Jiu Jitsu
• Dance, Feldenkrais
• Strength Training, Physical Fitness, Body Sculpting, Circuit Training, Weight Training, Strength and Interval Training
• Running and Conditioning, Walking and Wellness
• Aerobics, Boxercise, Zumba
• Golf
Teach in-person day, evening, and/or Saturday classes at one or more sites as required
Evaluate student performance and progress through in-class observation, practical skills and technique test, and written assignments
Create lesson plans that reflect approved department course outlines
Participate in instructional-related and departmental activities including, but not limited to, curriculum development, selection of appropriate instructional materials, revision of instructional and testing materials as required, development and assessment of student learning outcomes, and keeping required attendance records
Participate in department and college functions, such as staff meetings, committee work, and technical trainings
Supports and engages in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps
Participates in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism to center pedagogy
Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualification

Master's Degree in Physical EducationTeaching experience in collegePhysical Education coursesDemonstrative teaching abilitiesCulturally responsive pedagogyRelate to diverse studentsCommitment to equity in education

Required

Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
Earned Master's Degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Education with an emphasis in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Physiology of Exercise, or Adaptive Physical Education from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT:
Earned Bachelor's degree in any of the above from an accredited institution AND earned Master's Degree in any Life Science, Dance, Physiology, Health Education, Recreation Administration, or Physical Therapy from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT
Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in Physical education (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990)
Candidate must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment

Preferred

Teaching in a community college, or four-year college level
Practical demonstrative abilities, i.e. showing students physical technique
Ability to relate to a culturally, socially diversified student body
Current knowledge and skills in the appropriate Physical Education course(s)
Evidence of successful instructional experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy
Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students
