Parks, Recreation, & Culture Intern (Seasonal)

City of Beavercreek, OH is seeking a Parks, Recreation, & Culture Intern for a seasonal position. The intern will assist with recreational activities and programs, handle administrative duties, supervise sports leagues, and facilitate youth camps under the direction of the Recreation Program Supervisor.

Responsibilities

Performs tasks and duties as set forth by contract with the intern’s college or university
Supervises seasonal sports such as adult soccer, adult softball and youth T-ball leagues
Handles administrative duties related to recreation programs and special events, such as coordinating with vendors, and planning and preparing activities
Facilitates youth sports camps and specialty camps, such as preparing rosters, taking photos, communicating with instructors, and opening facilities
Supervises seasonal sports such as adult soccer, adult softball, and youth t-ball leagues
Responds to requests for recreation information; answers questions and provides necessary information; enrolls individuals in activities, classes, and programs
Assumes the duties of the Sports Management Intern in his/her absence
Works special events, such as Fourth of July, summer concert series and Party in Your Park
Assists Camp Director in miscellaneous administrative duties related to Summer Day Camps
Creates and distributes flyers and markets programs and events
Responds to complaints from citizens
Performs clerical duties as necessary, including typing, filing, copying, answering telephones, and bookkeeping
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Must be enrolled at an accredited college or university working towards a baccalaureate degree or graduate degree in recreation administration or a related field during their employment with the City of Beavercreek
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, fellow employees, other city employees, and the general public
General knowledge of park administration and recreational programs
General knowledge of the occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties
Skill in dealing firmly, tactfully, and courteously with the general public
Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions
Ability to work under the direction of the Recreation Program Supervisor
Comfortable with public speaking, such as making announcements in front of a crowd
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks within deadlines
Must maintain a valid Ohio Driver's License
Ability to work other than normal working hours, and to work various shifts as necessary

Preferred

Coursework preparation in related fields such as statistics, marketing, program evaluation, personnel management, sports management and special events programming
