AC Power Systems Engineer III, Launch Infrastructure Development
Blue Origin is working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems. The AC Power Systems Engineer III will design, develop, and test AC power systems for ground-based infrastructure like launch ranges, substations, or test facilities.

Qualification
Required
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering, with a power systems focus
8+ years of relevant experience in power systems design, analysis, and project execution
Software proficiency: Experience with power system simulation software like ETAP, PSS/E, or PSCAD
Technical knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical design processes, power system protection, and control systems
Design and analysis: Create detailed electrical designs for power distribution, control systems, and lightning protection
Power systems studies: Conduct load flow analysis, short-circuit studies, and grounding studies to ensure system performance and safety
Component and system selection: Specify, size, and select electrical components such as transformers, switchgear, and circuit breakers
Installation and commissioning: Oversee the installation of electrical equipment and participate in the testing and commissioning phases to validate system functionality
Documentation: Develop and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, control diagrams, and operational manuals
Troubleshooting and maintenance: Investigate and resolve power-related issues, support ongoing maintenance, and provide real-time support during critical operations
Compliance and quality: Ensure designs and installations comply with industry standards, codes (e.g., IEEE, NESC), and project-specific requirements
Risk management: Perform risk assessments, hazard analyses, and failure mode and effects analyses (FMEA)
Problem-solving: Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills to troubleshoot complex issues
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports and present information to diverse audiences
Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, contractors, and end-users and earn trust
Experience with electrical distribution design, hazardous area classification, load balancing, single-line diagrams, design documentation, construction drawings, construction bid solicitation, contractor selection, construction management, field superintendence, permitting, QA/QC
Experience with commissioning, operating, and maintenance of power systems
Ability to design and understand precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and modeling applications
Ability to perform and manage technically complex projects using independent judgment and personal initiative
Recognize and act on opportunities; maintain flexibility to adjust as requirements shift or constraints change
Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), Intermediate
Candidate must be able to lift/carry up to fifty pounds. Must be able to physically climb multiple flights stairs, withstand prolonged standing, and work in adverse weather conditions
Candidate must be able to successfully apply for badging at a government installation
Preferred
Professional Engineer
Experience in the aerospace (orbital launch vehicle) sector
Experience with AFSPCMAN 91-710
Experience working with DOD, US Air Force and/or US Space Force, NASA
Experience with NFPA 55, NFPA 70, NFPA 59A, NFPA 780
PMP or Project Management Experience
