Resident Tunnel Engineer

Responsibilities
Serve as the on-site technical expert for tunnel and trenchless construction activities
Oversee daily construction operations, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and project requirements
Perform engineering calculations, review drawings, and prepare field reports
Coordinate with contractors, client representatives, and internal teams to resolve technical issues and facilitate project progress
Participate in project meetings, constructability reviews, and quality assurance/quality control activities
Support the development and revision of project documentation, including change orders, schedules, and cost estimates
Mentor junior staff and foster a collaborative team environment
Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for tunnel and trenchless works
Provide services during construction, including submittal reviews, responses to RFIs, and contract document clarifications
Ensure all work is performed in accordance with Stantec and client safety policies
Qualification
Required
Self-starter, innovative and collaborative
Strong communicator, able to engage in creative and critical thought
Experienced in tunnel and/or trenchless design and construction
Familiar with tunnel and trenchless means and methods, materials, and industry standards
Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant design software
Familiarity with computational modeling software is a plus
Able to solve complex problems using sound professional judgement, creativity, and innovation
Organized, with excellent time management skills
Able to travel and work on site for the duration of the assignment
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geological Engineering
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Ohio, or ability to obtain licensure within six months of hire
Minimum of 10 years of experience in tunnel or trenchless design or construction activities and related geotechnical or structural engineering input
Experience working in field environments, including exposure to inclement weather
Preferred
Direct construction oversight experience
Postgraduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, or Structural Engineering
Additional experience in tunnel or trenchless design or construction activities
