The Principal Writer & Strategist for Executive Thought Leadership will serve as the editorial voice for BetterUp’s executive team, crafting narratives that communicate their ideas effectively across various formats.

Responsibilities
Develop and execute BetterUp’s executive communications and thought leadership strategy and messaging — spanning speeches, public commentary, and social storytelling
Ghostwrite everything from keynote scripts and long-form features to punchy social posts and short-form video scripts
Interview executives and experts to surface authentic stories and original insights and develop articles and content that build trust with Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), Chief People Officers (CPOs),Chief Human Resources Officers (CHROs)
Partner with Executives, Brand and Labs to turn data, research, and behavioral science into engaging, accessible narratives
Collaborate on multimedia storytelling — written, podcasts video, and live event segments — that bring executive ideas to life
Use GenAI tools to enhance creativity, move faster, personalize content, and strengthen executive voice without sacrificing authenticity or credibility. Maintain a human writer’s voice
Track engagement, reach, and influence across executive content to measure impact and refine strategy
Qualification
Required
Strong editorial craft, marketing instinct, and creative storytelling
Ability to dig for insights, interview leaders, uncover fresh angles, and translate complex ideas into clear, resonant narratives across formats — speeches, bylines, presentations, video scripts, and social media
Ability to write fast, think visually, and help leaders communicate with purpose and humanity
Experience developing and executing executive communications and thought leadership strategy and messaging
Experience ghostwriting everything from keynote scripts and long-form features to punchy social posts and short-form video scripts
Experience interviewing executives and experts to surface authentic stories and original insights and develop articles and content that build trust with Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), Chief People Officers (CPOs), Chief Human Resources Officers (CHROs)
Experience partnering with Executives, Brand and Labs to turn data, research, and behavioral science into engaging, accessible narratives
Experience collaborating on multimedia storytelling — written, podcasts video, and live event segments — that bring executive ideas to life
Experience using GenAI tools to enhance creativity, move faster, personalize content, and strengthen executive voice without sacrificing authenticity or credibility
Ability to track engagement, reach, and influence across executive content to measure impact and refine strategy
Preferred
10+ years in executive communications, journalism, thought leadership, or strategic storytelling
Proven experience as a ghostwriter and speechwriter for senior leaders
A strong background in interviewing and narrative and development; you know how to get great stories out of people
A deep understanding of enterprise buyer psychology, especially CHROs and CEOs
Experience writing for multiple formats — speeches, op-eds, long-form content, video, event experiences, and social
Comfort working with data-driven or research-based material; ideally familiar with organizational or behavioral psychology
A marketing mindset — you understand audience, timing, and channel, and can write for various mediums and occasions
An eye for multimedia and social media storytelling — you can think in visuals and voice, not just text
Ability to coach executive leaders on storytelling and delivery for stage, screen, and social would be great
