Stantec is now accepting applications for Summer 2026 Civil Engineering interns within their Community Development Group in Des Moines, Iowa. As an intern, you will work on various community development projects and gain exposure to civil engineering practices including urban design, traffic engineering, and infrastructure design.

Responsibilities

Use technical and communication abilities to complete the civil component of a wide variety of projects in a dynamic design team setting

Inspect construction sites for compliance with project documents and engineering principles

Assist with preparation of plans and specifications, reports, and other project deliverables

Attend meetings on an as needed basis

Complete detailed reports as required

Procure permits and other approvals from various agencies

Communicate effectively with construction and engineering staff, clients, and other project stakeholders

Assist with CAD drafting and design, and preparation of construction documents

Required

Currently enrolled in an accredited degree bachelor's degree (minimum) in civil engineering

Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Requires understanding of basic AutoCAD and Civil 3D

Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Strong interest in community development engineering disciplines

Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction

Ability to work independently

Must have a vehicle, good driving record, and valid driver's license

Preferred

Specific coursework or exposure to one or more of the following is desired: planning, design, construction, architecture, infrastructure, hydrology, environmental, surveying and construction management
