Mechanical Or Industrial Engineering
Responsibilities
Determine best machine based on this criteria
Efficiency – Most cost effective ($$)
Availability – Delivery Requirements (Backlog)
Back-up Machine (Contingency Planning)
Determine Operation Steps/Sequences
Best place to establish part zero (X,Y,Z,W) as they apply
What sequence each feature event should be machined in
What critical attributes should be included in the In-Process Inspection
Determine best Work holding for each sequence
Do we have available fixture/jaws to hold this part
Do we need to make a fixture or jaws specific to this part
Can we modify an existing fixture or set of jaws to hold this part
Create the DPP Set-up details for each operation
Determine cutting tools from stock, make or purchase
Are the required tools to machine each feature in house
Do they utilize technology (thru the tool coolant, Specific coatings, chip breaker, ect)
Do we have to order any special tooling
Create the DPP Tool List for each operation
Gather costs for tooling/procure quotations
Find competitive solutions for custom tooling
Submit all tooling quotes for review
Advise quoting of any tooling cost requirement
Evaluate inspection
Do we have all the required inspection tools needed to check each feature
Do we have to purchase any special items to inspect a feature
Communicate with quality
Work with Manufacturing Engineer Manager to create a productive CNC program based on the tooling and sequence of feature machining we discussed above
Negotiate starting feed/speed Parameters
On complex machining operations work side by side with the set-up machinist as you proof out the CNC program, ensuring that it is running as intended
Work with machinist to modify as needed (Speed and Feeds) to achieve highest efficiency while maintaining realistic tool life
Main communication source between the Machinist and the Programming Office
Supporting high probability “project” quotes based on needed requirements
Generate ideas for manufacturing methodologies
Gather as much up front data as possible to optimize project start up
Based on requirements from customer orders, plan sequences of operations for machining and assembly of products
Ensure efficient and effective manufacturing methods are used that are compatible to available machines
Specifies, design and/or procures special tooling or equipment required to attain product per customer requirement with in budgeted cost and time
Programs CNC machines to effectively and efficiently produce desired product
Analyze and resolve machining and tooling issues to avoid problems
Create new or modify existing manufacturing drawings using CAD methodology
Value engineer existing products and processes to reduce cost, lead time and cycle times
Complies with all company policies/procedures
Complies with all military and contractual requirements
Solving problems during the NJSU project implementation
Technical: through drawing and specification interpretation. (With the customer, in the office and on the shop floor.)
Financial: Seek to prevent cost overruns by monitoring project costs and addressing issues as they appear
Driving awareness across the enterprise
Communicating schedule-related items to appropriate people in operation, scheduling, planning/purchasing, supplier management and quality assurance roles
Identifying needs for special action when standard action is not meeting project goals. Communicating those needs appropriately
Facilitating resolution of manufacturing issues related to fixturing/tooling/programming where necessary, while understanding and respecting organizational lines of responsibility and communication
Facilitating resolution of quality/inspection related issues by communicating with quality assurance staff and the customer on when required
Qualification
