This role involves leading the commissioning and integration of utility-scale battery energy storage and solar projects, ensuring safe and efficient operations while collaborating with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Lead the commissioning and integration of utility-scale battery energy storage and solar projects from planning through execution
Develop commissioning plans and procedures, define integration and sequencing strategies, and coordinate across engineering, construction, and operations teams
Manage the full commissioning scope — from pre-functional testing and energization to performance verification and final acceptance — ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements
Perform detailed BESS integration mapping and sequencing, including control systems, power conversion systems (PCS), battery management systems (BMS), energy management systems (EMS), SCADA, and interconnection coordination
Identify and assess risks, develop mitigation strategies, and maintain schedules aligned with project milestones
Serve as the technical lead for commissioning deliverables, including test procedures, checklists, documentation, and turnover packages
Provide oversight of third-party contractors and vendors during commissioning, ensuring technical accuracy, safety compliance, and timely completion
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues during commissioning, validate system performance, and ensure operational readiness before handoff to asset management
Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and standardizing best practices across DESRI’s BESS and solar portfolio
Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field is required
At least six years of relevant experience
Experience leading commissioning of battery energy storage systems and grid-integration testing is essential
Demonstrate a deep understanding of electrical and control system integration, sequencing, and grid interconnection requirements
Proficiency in risk analysis, project scheduling, and commissioning best practices
Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills are required
Ability to collaborate effectively with EPCs, vendors, utilities, and internal stakeholders
Experience in managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
Focus on safety and quality
Travel to project sites across the United States will be required for commissioning support, project reviews, and coordination meetings
Preferred
Exposure to utility-scale solar commissioning is strongly preferred
