Regulatory Affairs Specialist (Early Career)
NRD, LLC seeks an early-career Regulatory Affairs Specialist who is eager to learn and ready to master the regulations that govern our nuclear materials manufacturing, distribution, transport, and exports. This role involves executing well-defined tasks under mentorship and progressing to owning licensing actions, filings, and agency interactions.

Responsibilities
Run the compliance calendar so filings, renewals, training, and security adjudications are on time
Prepare, submit, and archive all required filings, amendments, reports, and notifications related to regulatory and licensing requirements; keep records audit-ready
Coordinate domestic and international Radioactive Material shipments with correct package selection, labels, marks, shipping papers, and QA records
Maintain a concise Regulatory Index that maps each rule to what it governs at NRD, the key thresholds, and the template to use
Support inspections, internal audits, and corrective actions
Help with export and sanctions screening and basic 10 CFR 810 determinations with Supply Chain and Legal
Partner with Engineering/Operations/Health Physics on documentation and change reviews to map regulatory impact before release
Support waste classification and manifesting to 10 CFR 20/61 and NY requirements; coordinate approved vendors
Qualification
Required
Master's in Public Policy, Public Administration, Law or related field
0-3 years of relevant experience in regulatory compliance, legal or risk management within a highly regulated industry or applicable compliance internships/co-op
Understanding of federal, state and local regulatory frameworks and how they affect business operations
Ability to interpret complex regulations and develop clear actionable strategies
Experience conducting audits, designing compliance programs and delivering employee training
Evidence of fast, self-directed learning and clear technical writing and verbal skillset
Detail focus, clear writing, and comfort with procedures and records
Eagerness to learn fast and to present clear, defensible work to regulators
High level of integrity, sound legal judgement and discretion in handling sensitive matters
Preferred
Prior experience working as a paralegal or legal analyst
Direct experience interacting with NRC, DOE, EPA or other state level authorities
