SUPERVISORY ESL INSTRUCTOR
The Department of the Air Force is seeking a Supervisory ESL Instructor at Lackland AFB. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a first level supervisor, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to the Defense Language Institute English Language Center (DLIELC).

Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of assigned ESL instructors, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements under the Department of Defense (DoD), the Department of State (DoS), the Defense Language Organization (DLO), the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the United States Air Force (USAF), Air Education and Training Command (AETC) and all military services while meeting customer needs
Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities
Represents DLIELC with a variety Department of Defense (DoD), Department of State (DoS), U.S. Air Force, installation and functional area organizations
Plans and manages all aspects of academic training for students assigned to ensure optimum training and student progress
Serves as an ESL expert for instructors

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
Incumbent must be a native speaker or equivalent and be free of speech impediment
Mobility is a condition of employment. The employee must sign an Air Force-wide mobility agreement
This position is limited to current Department of Air Force employees currently assigned to Air Education and Training Command
This is a Centrally Managed position and PCS is Authorized
Incumbent must meet, as a minimum, one of the following: Master's degree in one of the following disciplines: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) / Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) / Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL); English as a Second Language (ESL) / English as a Foreign Language (EFL); Applied Linguistics (or Linguistics); OR Undergraduate degree in ESL/EFL; English; foreign languages; AND one year of professional level experience teaching ESL/EFL to adults; OR Any undergraduate degree AND 24 semester (or equivalent) hours of undergraduate courses equivalent to a major in one of the above stated disciplines (TESOL, TESL, TEFL, ESL, EFL, linguistics) AND one year of professional level experience teaching ESL/EFL to adults
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application
Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position
Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in A above
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes professional knowledge of ESL principles, approaches, methods, and techniques of instruction for ESL/EFL/ESP, including specialized knowledge of the English language and American culture. Knowledge of instructional design and materials development to include the use of technology and student assessment techniques and objectives to include test and measurement principles and practices. Knowledge of EEO principles and practices as well as safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Professional knowledge of principles, assessments, approaches, methods, and techniques of instruction for ESL/EFL/ESP. Knowledge of American culture, instructional design, and materials development to include the use of technology. Knowledge of organization's training administration, policies, and procedures. Skill and ability to analyze problems relating to proper ESL instruction and student management in order to develop viable solutions. Ability to plan, organize and direct the functions and staff of a small-to medium-sized organization. Ability to communicate and interact effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of personnel within and outside the organization, including across multinational forums
