Responsibilities

Interface with project teams to provide material selection, processes, and requirements for reactor development programs

Perform scientific analysis of reports and test data (e.g., metallography, non-destructive inspection, mechanical properties, ductility) and generate technical specifications to document new knowledge related to reactor design and qualification

Oversee test programs designed to develop an understanding of complex mechanical phenomena (e.g. creep, fatigue, creep fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, and fracture) in sodium cooled fast reactor plant materials such as steel alloys

Provide materials engineering support for the procurement of engineered components and systems including leading technical development of suppliers to increase technology readiness level of key components

Required

Minimum of 3 years of related experience with a B.S. degree; a degree in Materials Science/Engineering or a related technical discipline is desired

Experience with austenitic stainless steels, chrome-moly steels, ferritic-martensitic steels and/or Inconel

Prior experience in materials development, testing, and characterization for a nuclear reactor environment is desirable

Experience qualifying materials for service in highly regulated applications is preferred

Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) is preferred

Experience developing material processing specifications, evaluating material selections and reviewing vendor material definitions

An understanding of complex mechanical phenomena (e.g., creep, fatigue, creep fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, and fracture) in high temperature systems

Strong communication skills
