Utility Inspector -Commercial Development- Utility Systems Department

Responsibilities
Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie and Utility Systems Department at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintaining high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations
Inspects water and sewer facilities to assure that new construction is performed according to specifications. Notes, and reports deficiencies and improper or unorthodox construction methods. Advises engineer/contractor of deficiencies
Observes pressure tests, infiltration and ex-filtration tests, TV Inspections, pump station start-ups, etc. Checks elevations and slopes of gravity sewer
Prepares red line drawings and checks as-built drawings for accuracy
Physically locates existing potable water distribution, reclaimed water and wastewater collection systems, and appurtenances, including power and/or communication lines owned and maintained by the City, by use of electronic data and equipment, hard copy records, and/or physically digging up and accurately marking the location of said facilities. Locates shall be completed adhering to Chapter 556 of the Florida Statues
Monitors job progress and prepares written reports as required
Regular and punctual attendance
Follows and enforces good safety practices/procedures
Other duties as may be assigned
Qualification
Required
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required
Courses in engineering, drafting and inspection techniques required
A minimum of four (4) years of experience in inspections of the construction of water, sewer, and reuse systems required
Possession of valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of clean driving record required
Knowledge of safe work techniques and practices, while working in Public Rights-of-Way
Ability to work independently and in a group effort to perform assigned duties
Basic knowledge and/or computer skills, including a base map viewer program
Ability to read and use electronic and/or hard copy as-built drawings to perform assigned duties
Ability to read and use charts, blueprints, and civil drawings
Knowledge of materials used in the construction and maintenance of water and wastewater facilities, water distribution and wastewater collection systems
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with employees and the public
Ability to focus on the positive in every situation
Ability to stay centered when challenged
Ability to model respect for individuals, teams, and the organization
Ability to establish and maintain the trust and confidence of the department and public
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Ability to follow through with assigned tasks

THIS POSITION REQUIRES SCHEDULED/UNSCHEDULED OVERTIME, INCLUDING EVENINGS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS AND/OR IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO EMERGENCY CONDITIONS
