Process Engineer, Laser Welding
Tesla is seeking a motivated Sustaining Process Engineer to ensure continuous production quality and enable world-class manufacturing of Tesla’s cutting-edge body frame assemblies. The Sustaining Process Engineer’s primary responsibilities include eliminating waste in the manufacturing process and driving long-term line improvements while working with a cross-functional team to develop and sustain new model/product/material introductions.

Responsibilities
CMMS and Equipment Management: Input new equipment into CMMS; lead equipment numbering; own edits to PM schedules, procedures, and statuses
Work Order Planning: Review/evaluate requests; assign to backlog; define scope, instructions, spares, tools, time, and root-cause solutions for safe, efficient execution
Preventive Maintenance (PM): Maintain PM integrity (checklists, frequencies, compliance); load-level and review effectiveness; develop strategies (condition- vs. time-based, repair/replace); adjust frequencies; prioritize workloads and create job standards
Planned Work Optimization: Boost planned activities via Pareto analysis and history reviews; create job packages with BOMs, pick lists, and kits; maintain secure kitting areas
Scheduling and Coordination: Develop/monitor schedules; coordinate with maintenance, production, vendors; communicate updates, delays, and changes; plan shutdowns with metrics (work, headcount, cost, safety)
Backlog and Inventory: Manage backlogs, aging, and communications; maintain parts catalogs, history, min/max levels; support spares warehouse on kits, critical items, and logistics; oversee shop consumables
Reliability and Support: Assist breakdowns with coordination, MTTR tracking; drive reliability via data analysis, simulations, improvements; coordinate training and vendor support
Performance and Reporting: Compare actual vs. planned outcomes; develop/manage KPIs for improvements; build/visualize reports and present to teams
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering or other Engineering discipline, or equivalent in experience
Ability to derive data-supported root causes and propose strong countermeasures
Exceptional problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning systems quickly
Experience developing and improving Process. Have a demonstrated track record of Overall Equipment Effectiveness improvement activities
Exceptional capacity for managing simultaneous activities and challenges
Demonstrated experience in ramping a high volume, automated and semi-automated manufacturing line
Strong ability to work and communicate effectively with team and peers within a manufacturing and engineering organization. This includes excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience developing and applying lean six sigma methodologies such as: Waste Reduction, Poka-Yoke, SPC, GR&R, DOE
Preferred
Tableau, and/or Minitab experience preferred
Experience Vision inspection systems preferred, such as Keyence 2D image inspection and profilometry preferred
Laser Welding experience highly desired
