RESEARCH ENGINEER II (MECHANICAL) (2)
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) has an early-career Mechanical Engineering position for UAB's Engineering and Innovative Technology Development (EITD) group. The role involves developing mechanical system designs, assisting in the manufacture and operational support of payload systems for space applications, and collaborating with engineers from other disciplines to create integrated systems.

Responsibilities
Develop viable mechanical system and component designs based on project requirements and specifications
Assist in development, manufacture, maintenance, sustainment, and operational support of payload systems for space applications
Develop detailed engineering documents and CAD drawings for use in fabrication and assembly of complex engineering hardware and devices
Review and check engineering drawings produced by others for adherence to technical specifications and requirements
Demonstrate effective technical communication to guide fabrication and assembly efforts, and work closely with engineers of other disciplines to develop high-reliability integrated systems
Assist in design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems
Perform simple and routine engineering design tasks with standard techniques
Assist more senior engineers in the preparation of plans, designs, computation methods, and reports
Gain exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function
Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work
Support meetings, teleconferences, and travel as required by projects
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Four (4) years of related experience
Ability to use various engineering and documentation/analysis software, MS Word, and Excel
Ability to problem-solve
Ability to work independently

Technical Communication skills (verbal written)
Prioritization skills
Process improvement and quality skills
Ability to train others
Mechanical Design experience using CAD software
Preferred
Mechanical Engineering design experience for the integration of mechanical and electrical systems

Mechanical Engineering experience for aerospace applications
