$19/hr - $19/hrThe City of Ankeny is seeking college students or recent college graduates for their paid, temporary full-time 2026 Summer Engineering Internship Program. Interns will gain hands-on experience in Civil Construction Engineering and Traffic Engineering through various responsibilities and projects.

Responsibilities
Assists with construction observation on Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects including street, utility, and sidewalk infrastructure
Collects field measurements and construction quantities and performs engineering calculations
Prepares and tests samples of construction materials and documents field observations
Performs other related duties as needed
Performs traffic studies including vehicle counts & speeds, pedestrian counts, gap studies, and high-resolution data analysis
Performs data collection using Global Positions System (GPS) equipment
Assist Technicians with preventative maintenance and repairs of traffic signals and signs
Performs other related duties as needed
Qualification
Required
All applicants who are pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree and recent college graduates will be considered
Must be at least 18 years old
Shall possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license
Preferred
Preference will be given to students majoring in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, or a related field who have completed their freshman year or higher
Knowledge of office software (Word, Excel, etc.) and capable of working with engineering software such as AutoCAD, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other engineering automation tools is a plus
Benefits
IPERS eligibility and participation will begin once an employee earns $1,000 or more in two consecutive quarters and will continue for the duration of employment.
