Fire Systems Assistant Technician
The University of Virginia is seeking a Fire Systems Assistant Technician to join their Fire Protection Department within Facilities Management. This role involves assisting technicians with inspections, maintenance, and repairs of fire detection and suppression systems across university properties, ensuring safety for students, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities
Install and repairs fire system devices and components with guidance from a Fire System Technician
Assist technicians performing fire detection and suppression tests by operating fire system devices per test procedures, monitoring fire alarm panel during testing, and accurately record results
Maintain inspection records, including inventory of fire safety devices and equipment
Ensure the availability, readiness, and proper use of required accident prevention procedures, safety and fire prevention equipment, protective clothing and devices, and first aid supplies
Ability to work flexible schedule
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or Equivalent
Experience performing work in electrical and mechanical trades
Valid Driver's License
Preferred
Ability to assist in the inspection and assessing of fire systems
Ability to accurately record observations and note violations and present corrective recommendations in a professional manner
Ability to work effectively with building occupants and other authorities having jurisdiction
Knowledge of building fire suppression and detection equipment and systems
Knowledge of electrical and mechanical work practices
Experience performing electrical or mechanical trades
Basic computer skills
