Designer, Tool

D&W Fine Pack is focused on providing quality food packaging solutions, and they are seeking a Designer, Tool to assist in the design and development of new commercial thermoformed food packaging tooling. The role involves working closely with Corporate Engineering and Manufacturing to improve existing tooling and ensure compliance with design standards.

Responsibilities

Follows all D&W Safety Rules and maintains an awareness of surroundings
Reports unsafe conditions or hazards and uses the proper PPE for any work being performed
Assist in the design of new thermoforming, injection, and foil tooling to meet D&W Fine Pack standards
Assist in the design of replacement and insert thermoforming, injection, and foil tooling to meet D&W Fine Pack standards
Work with the tooling department to continuously improve current molds to meet new design standards established by the Tool Engineering department
Detail and file prints as required by Tool Designer II, III and Tool Design Manager
Responsible for creation and maintenance of all tooling Bill of Materials
Generate documentation with quality inspection information with critical dimensions
Update and maintain the tooling standards book
Participate in tool inspection process at tool vendor before shipment of new production tool
Assisting plants where required on tooling and machine repairs
Assist in CNC programming for internal CNC shop as needed
Assist in procurement of details required for fabrication and build of tooling including raw materials, cutters, and purchased details used for assembly
Help with inspection of internal tool builds
Assist in tool room as required i.e. machining, polishing, vacuum drilling, and assembly as required
Assist in set-up and tracking of TRP and CER projects in JobBoss and master project list
Maintain a safe work environment
Track tool design time by project
Provides general engineering assistance when necessary
Perform tasks as assigned by Tool Design Manager and other managers as directed
Assist in the start-up of new production tooling as required

Required

AS Engineering (Mechanical or Plastics preferred); or experience and/or training equivalent with education
1+ years of experience with specific background working in thermoforming product and tool engineering
3+ years relevant CAD experiences (Solid Works and DraftSight preferred) Mastercam programming knowledge a plus
1+ years of experience in hands-on machine shop operations; CNC set-up experience preferred
Knowledge of plastic material processes and materials
Experience in problem solving involving product design and tooling design/debug
Skilled in management of large and small projects
Excellent computer and communication (verbal and written) skills

Preferred

Mechanical or Plastics Engineering degree
Solid Works and DraftSight experience
Mastercam programming knowledge
CNC set-up experience
