Patient Accounting Manager

Responsibilities
Oversees daily operations of the hospital and clinic billing functions within a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) environment and manages the billing team
Ensures accurate, compliant, and timely billing, collections, follow-up, denials resolution, and refund processing for inpatient, outpatient, RHC, and provider-based clinic services
Maintains high performance of both in-house staff and outsourced partners
Supports optimization of Meditech and Waystar workflows
Enforces CAH reimbursement rules, including Method II and RHC billing requirements
Plays a key role in achieving organizational revenue goals
Qualification
Required
Must be at least 18 years of age
Proof of highest level of education completed but not less than high school education or equivalent as recognized by an approved government accreditation association
Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, Business, Accounting, or related field OR 7–10 years of progressively responsible revenue-cycle experience
3+ years in hospital patient accounting or revenue-cycle management
Strong knowledge of CAH billing, RHC billing, clinic billing, and Method II requirements
Proficiency with Meditech Expanse and Waystar
Thorough understanding of billing, collections, cash posting, and payer regulations across Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, leadership, physicians, and the public
Ability to interpret financial reports, payer contracts, and regulatory requirements
Strong analytical, leadership, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and develop solutions without precedent
Professional appearance, demeanor, and communication skills
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
English language proficiency with excellent written and verbal skills
Preferred
Previous Meditech experience in billing or patient accounting modules
HFMA CRCR, AAHAM, or equivalent revenue-cycle certification
Experience working in a Critical Access Hospital environment
Experience managing outsourced RCM vendors
