Intern - Wildlife Habitat Management (Summer)
The State of South Dakota is seeking interns for the Wildlife Habitat Management program during the summer session. The primary responsibilities include assisting with the noxious weed control program, creating habitat management plans, and supporting various wildlife habitat projects.

Responsibilities
Assist the department’s noxious weed control program, including herbicide application as well as the required herbicide application data entry
Create Habitat Management plans to plant shrubs, native grass seedings, and assist in all aspects of our food plots program
Assist Region II staff with miscellaneous projects, including but not limited to, posting of signs, mowing trails and parking areas, fencing, and miscellaneous wildlife habitat projects
Assist with other division section (Fisheries, Wildlife, Law Enforcement, and Animal Damage Control) projects as time and opportunity permit
Qualification
Required
Applicant must be a current part-time or full-time student (minimum of 6 credit hours) in upcoming semester or in the immediately preceding semester
General knowledge of South Dakota's noxious weed control program
ATV/UTV experience
Experience with farm machinery and heavy equipment
Ability to write a land management plan and habitat management plans to implement native grass seeding and shrub plantings from start to finish
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
Preferred
Preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior
Preference may be given to South Dakota residents
Preference may be given to students of South Dakota institutions
